 Interpreting

As a qualified conference interpreter, I can offer the following services:

  • Simultaneous interpreting: This is "real time" interpreting, usually done with the use of booths. This mode is particularly suitable for long-lasting events.

  • Consecutive interpreting: With this type of interpreting, the speaker talks for a few minutes in their own language while the interpreter takes notes, and then the interpreter repeats what has been said to the audience in the target language. Organisers should take into account that consecutive interpreting takes about twice as long as the duration of the original speech.

  • Liaison interpreting: This service is particularly suitable for business meetings. Participants speak at the meeting in their own languages and the interpreter translates each time in short segments.

  • Court Interpreting: This type of interpreting is provided partly simultaneously, (usually in "chuchotage", or whispering in the ear of the person who does not understand the language of the court), and partly consecutive, to help the concerned parties or witnesses during a court hearing.

  • Whispered interpreting: Like simultaneous interpreting, this type of interpreting is done in almost real time. The interpreter "whispers" the target language to the participants while sitting directly behind them. This mode of interpreting is only available for a very limited number of participants.
